Fresh Rating — How It Works

A score from 0–100 measuring how ready a song is to be used again. The number reflects multiple overlapping signals, not just how recently it was played.

1. Days Since Last Played  (0–40 pts)
0–7 days0 pts
8–14 days10 pts
15–29 days20 pts
30–59 days30 pts
60–89 days37 pts
90+ days40 pts
2. Recent Play Velocity  (0–40 pts)

Compares plays in the last 90 days against the song’s historical average rate. 6 plays in 2 months is very different from 6 plays over 3 years.

At or below historical rate32–40 pts
Slightly above average20 pts
Noticeably above average8 pts
Way above average0 pts
3. 30-Day Clustering  (0–20 pts)

Catches songs being used too close together within a short window, independent of the 90-day window.

0 plays in 30 days20 pts
1 play in 30 days10 pts
2+ plays in 30 days0 pts
4. Age Penalty  (continuous, per month)

Older songs have a lower freshness ceiling. Even perfectly rested, a 5-year catalog song can’t score above ~65. The penalty grows ~0.6 pts per month.

3 months old−2 pts, max ~98
12 months old−7 pts, max ~93
24 months old−14 pts, max ~86
36 months old−21 pts, max ~79
60 months old−35 pts, max ~65
5. Familiarity Weight  (multiplier on recent plays)

Older songs AND more-played songs are more familiar to the congregation, so each recent play counts more heavily against them. A catalog song with 30+ plays over 5 years scores each recent play as if it were 2.4 plays.

Very new, rarely played0.3x (very lenient)
1–2 years, 10–15 plays~1.0x (baseline)
3–4 years, 25+ plays~1.9x (strict)
5+ years, 40+ plays2.4x (very strict)
